Cure a lingering cough

About 2 weeks ago, my hubby came down with the flu.  Sigh!  Something you should know about us is that we don’t go to the doctors unless we are dying and so, as expected, he waited and waited before finally going to see the doctor.  The whole while I was diffusing and keeping the rest of the family free of the flu!  Successfully I might add!

CedarwoodThe cough, however has lingered and it is this annoying chesty cold.  As I said in the very beginning of my blogging, when I notice someone in need of medical assistance, I always consult my handy resource guide and find a fix for it.  I swear, the is an oil for everything!

CEDARWOOD!  I immediately told him (name to be withheld to protect the innocent) to rub a few drops of Cedarwood on his chest.  He can either add it to a carrier oil (olive or coconut oil) or rub it neat onto his chest.  Tada!  It has worked wonders and calms his cough immediately. As a bonus he absolutely loves the smell of Cedarwood and does not mind smelling like a small forest.

Cedarwood … the power to loosen the mucous and clear the lungs.

Suffering from Gum Issues?

Well, this handy little tip will fix your problem very quickly.

(Remember that I only write about issues that have been proven to me in my own life.  If they can work for me, then I know they can work for you.  Let me help you.)

Gingivitis/Gum Disease/Bleeding Gums/Sore Gums…. does this sound familiar to you?  Well it did for me, well at least for my husband.  For as long as I have known him, he has had issues with his gums.  He hated going to the dentist because the report was never any good.

Then one day, his sister suggested making our own toothpaste and that we would be pleasantly surprised by the results.   Let me tell you, she was not kidding.

After using the “natural” toothpaste, it probably took him about 1 week before he started noticing a major improvement.  His gums were in fact getting healthier.  Then at his next dental appointment, the doctor was very impressed and wondered what miracle product he was using.  And here it is:

Mix about 10 tablespoons of sesame oil with about 10 drops of Theives oil (you can add a few drops of peppermint if you like the minty fresh feel).  Brush with this mixture at least once a day.  We have it in a little dropper bottle and drop it directly onto the toothbrush.  Brush well and massage the oil up into your gums.  Spit it out and rinse.

And that is it.  Your dentist will be amazed!

Alternatively, if you don’t want to bother with making this miracle oil, you can purchase Thieves Aromabright Toothpaste.  Become a member and pay just $10.25.

ThievesToothpasteOh and remember to keep flossing!  That is super important!

Happy and healthy gums to you!

Troubled by fleas??

I am!  I live out in the country and have four dogs that are being bothered by fleas right now.  For me, the fleas have become immune to Advantage and Front-line and I need something else to try… something with less chemicals.

I immediately googled homemade flea repellent and here is what I found.

1) Add 1 drop citronella or lemongrass to your regular dog shampoo. Use as normal.

2)  Mix together 1 cup apple cider vinegar, 1 quart water, and 2-3 drops lavender (or cedarwood) in a spray bottle.  Spritz your pet liberally.  Stay clear from his/her face (ear, nose, and eyes)

3) And finally I found Young Living sells a product called RepelAroma.  Put 2-4 drops to your hands and rub them together.  Then rub it all over your pet.  What animal does not love to be rubbed and it is a win win for all involved.  Alternatively, you can add RepelAroma to a spray bottle and spritz your pet’s coat. And finally, as always with Young Living, you can diffuse RepelAroma in your home or small outdoor areas. This blend contains Citronella, Idaho Tansy, Palo Santo and Tea Tree

Young Living is currently out of stock of RepelAroma (bummer, I know) so you can make your own concoction.

Mix together:
2 drops citronella
2 to 4 drops lemon
2 to 4 drops clary sage
5 to 6 drops peppermint

Put a few drops on the neck, back, chest, legs and tail of your pet. You can also add a few drops to your pet’s collar or add it to 8oz. of shampoo.

So last night I used idea #2 on my Pixie girl.  I washed her and then spritzed her coat with this mixture.  Today her coat is very bright white and I have noticed less scratching.  Yay!  Today I will chase down Tootsie and try idea #1.  My two boys absolutely hate baths and they get out of dodge as soon as they see me pick up the hose pipe.  So, if I can at least rub some oil into their fur, I will be a happy mama.

I am confident that all my fur babies will be feeling much better very soon, and thus so am I.

I will attempt to get a picture for you but I can’t promise.  You will have to check back with me.

Success!! All four bathed and smelling amazing.

Crash Course in Oils

3 WAYS TO USE ESSENTIAL OILS

  1. TOPICAL:

Essential oils are rapidly absorbed by the skin. You can apply the essential oils to the Vita Flex points.  Using a foot chart and you can apply the oils to various points on it that correspond to different systems and functions in your body.   You cannot go wrong by applying an oil to the bottom of the feet, especially if the oil is considered a hot oil.

  1. INHALATION or AROMATIC:

Direct Inhalation   Simply open a bottle of Young Living essential oils and inhale directly from the bottle.  Or put a drop in the palm of your hand, rub them together to warm up the oil and cup your face to inhale the aroma.  Ahhhhhh!

Diffusing   Place a few drops of your favorite Essential Oil into your diffuser (you will get one with your Premium Starter Kit) and fill to the line with water.  Turn it on and enjoy the mist.   Or do “tenting” that we talked about.  Turn on a diffuser, put a towel over our heads, and put our heads right over the diffuser.  Take deep, slow breaths for 5-10 minutes or as long as you are comfortable.

  1. INGESTING OILS AS A DIETARY SUPPLEMENT:

You can add essential oils to water or tea and also cook with essential oils. Some people also may put oils in vegetable capsules.

IMPORTANT!

  • DO NOT put essential oils in your eyes and ears.
  • Dilute hot oils. Some people are sensitive to hot oils such as peppermint. If an oil feels hot or tingly to the skin, then it needs to be diluted with a carrier oil such as coconut or olive oil.
  • If you are experiencing discomfort from a hot oil, do not try to wash it off with water, the water will actually drive the oil further into the skin making it hotter. Simply dilute the essential oils with a carrier oil and rub on the affected area. It will stop that hot feeling almost immediately.
  • Pregnant women, epileptics, and those with high blood pressure should consult their doctors as a few oils should be avoided.
  • Essential Oils are not recommended orally or topically for anyone undergoing chemo or radiation. Inhaling the oils for relaxation purposes, emotional purposes, or occasional nausea is okay if your doctor approves.
  • Conservative usage guides recommend that peppermint, rosemary, sage, eucalyptus or wintergreen not be used above the bottoms of the feet on children under the age of 18 months. If previously applied to child with no reaction, you may continue the use of the oil.
  • If you are allergic to anything, always read the label.

Vita Flex Foot Chart

Did you know that the bottom of the feet holds the solutions to many of our ailments?

This Vita Flex Foot Chart is an easy reference of all the points on the bottom and the top of the feet.

Because the bottom of our feet hold so many vital points, when we rub essential oils on our feet the healing can be even more powerful.

This method works great on children because they love to have work done on their feet, the oils are absorbed directly into their specific points, and skin on the feet is slightly thicker and so no skin irritation will occur.
